Giovanni Grassi

Giovanni Grassi, a Chemical Engineer from the University of Naples Federico II, plays a pivotal role in the ENCODING project. His responsibilities include:

  1. Investigating the effects of hydrogen addition in turbulent non-premixed synthetic-methane flames using Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS).
  2. Specifically analyzing the response of NOx emissions to hydrogen fuel enrichment and the impact of ammonia injection for NO reduction via selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR).
  3. Examining E-fuel alternatives like ammonia, and monitoring the ammonia/air ratio to mitigate ammonia slip and NOx emissions.
  4. Performing DNS with precise transport and chemical properties for flame and SNCR in configurations representative of turbulent burners used in energy production.
  5. Extracting key aerothermochemical properties from fully resolved flame simulations for sub-models in less resolved numerical simulations, facilitating virtual prototyping of future combustion systems.
  6. Generating a database for developing and testing a digital twin strategy for real-time process control of NOx abatement in hydrogen-enriched non-premixed combustion systems.
